The first time I ever heard Ferlin Husky sing was on one of those 30 minute infomercials for country music classics. I was most impressed with his great voice quality. When I learned that the name of the guy who was singing was "FERLIN HUSKY" I had one thought. With a name like that, it's a good thing he could sing well, or he'd be in a fight every day of his life.. Sure seemed like a very personable fella.

In 1965, Buck Owens held his first of several annual Toys for Tots Charitable Christmas Shows at the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium. The price of admission was one unwrapped Christmas gift. One of the many headliners was Ferlin. Simply put. he held the audience and the other entertainers in the palm of his hand for his 30 minute segment and received a 2 minute standing ovation from the standing room only crowd of around 3,000. I always thought his ballads were his best work. My favorite is "Even If It's True". There aren't any more Ferlin Husky's or Johnny Cash's out there and never will be. RIP !!
